Over the years, I’ve served on boards, joined organizations, and worked on committees for various arts and letters concerns. For the past few years, working on projects independently has proven to be most fun. April is National Poetry Month and on April 27, 2023, we had a group reading in honor of that month with help of info provided by #PoemInYourPocketDay.
A friend and I had been at a reading earlier and we worked on pulling the reading together in a relatively short period of time. We came up with the location. The Old State House in Dover Delaware. She came up with the title—Verses Going Vertical as we planned the finale readings of pocket poems on the dual spiral staircases at the venue.
We had wonderful press coverage in the papers and our local TV WBOC has a show called Delmarva Today which often highlights cultural events in our area. We had a wonderful event. If you want to do a project for National Poetry Month, check it out. April 18 is the date this year. What creative ideas can you come up with to celebrate poetry? I’m hoping our local Delaware Public Media radio can add in some local poetry this year.
Share any ideas here as would love to see what others have done or are planning.
